Terms of Use

These terms set the conditions for using Atwater Residents Directory. Accessing or using the pages means you accept them; do not use the reference if you disagree.

1. The Reference and Its Role

Atwater Residents Directory is privately operated. It describes and links to public rolls, record indexes, and directory collections relating to Atwater and Merced County, California. It does not host government records and is not affiliated with the Assessor-Clerk-Recorder, Atwater, the courts, a library, or another records custodian.

2. Permitted and Prohibited Use

Use the reference only for lawful purposes. Neither the pages nor anything reached through them may be used to:

  • Stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or harm any person
  • Locate someone protected by a restraining or protective order
  • Commit identity theft or fraud
  • Make FCRA-regulated decisions (credit, employment, tenant, insurance)
  • Scrape, copy, or republish the site's content at scale
  • Interfere with the site's operation or security

3. No Consumer Reporting Function

Atwater Residents Directory is not a consumer reporting agency as that term is defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. section 1681 et seq. Nothing on the pages, and nothing returned by a linked search tool, is a consumer report. None of it may be used to decide eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or another purpose governed by the FCRA.

4. External Links

Government portals and third-party services, including sponsored search tools, operate under their own terms and privacy notices. Atwater Residents Directory does not control or guarantee their content, uptime, fees, results, or data practices.

5. No Warranty

The reference is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. No promise is made that a detail is accurate, complete, or current, or that an outside portal will remain available or return a correct result.

6. Liability Limits

To the fullest extent allowed by law, the operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from use of these pages or an outside resource. That includes an action or decision based on a record found through a link.

7. Indemnity

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the operators from a claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys' fees, that results from your misuse of the reference or breach of these terms.

8. Copyright and Limited Quotation

Original text, design, logo, and layout are protected by copyright. A link to a page and a brief attributed quotation are welcome. Republishing a full page or systematically copying the material is not permitted.

9. Revisions

A new version may be posted here when the terms change. Continued use after the revision is posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

10. Access Restrictions

Access may be blocked or limited for a user who violates these terms, abuses the pages, or threatens their operation. This may occur at the operators' discretion and without advance notice.

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by California law without regard to conflict-of-law principles. References to public access are informed by the California Public Records Act, Government Code section 7920.000 et seq., including the request and determination rules in sections 7922.530 and 7922.535.

12. Severability

If a provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.

13. Contact for Questions

Questions about these terms may be sent through the Contact page.
